What Happens If I Want to Leave?
We hope you stay forever, but we'll never hold you hostage. Here's exactly what happens if you decide to leave Wildcore.
The Short Answer
You take your code and go. No penalties. No fees for the handoff. No retention tricks. Your website code is yours — always has been, always will be.
Step-by-Step: Leaving Wildcore
Step 1: Tell Us
Send an email to corey@wildcore.studio or message through Wilder chat. Just let us know you'd like to move on. No awkward phone call required.
Step 2: Code Handoff (Free)
Within 14 business days of your request, we deliver your complete website source code. You choose the format:
- ZIP file via email or download link
- Git repository (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket — your choice)
- Direct transfer to your new developer or hosting provider
What's included in the handoff:
- All source code (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, components, pages)
- All assets (images, fonts, icons, media files)
- Configuration files (package.json, environment config templates)
- Build instructions (how to run, build, and deploy the site)
- Content files (blog posts, page content, metadata)
What's NOT included:
- Wildcore internal templates and build tools (these are our proprietary systems)
- Active hosting or deployment configuration (you'll set this up on your new host)
- Third-party service credentials (you'll need your own Vercel, Supabase, etc. accounts)
Step 3: Migration Assistance (Optional — Starting at $500)
If you want us to help you get set up somewhere else, we offer migration assistance:
What migration assistance includes:
- Setting up your site on a new hosting provider (Vercel, Netlify, AWS, etc.)
- Configuring your domain to point to the new host
- Ensuring the site builds and runs correctly in the new environment
- Testing across browsers and devices
- One week of email support after migration for troubleshooting
Migration assistance pricing:
- Basic migration ($500) — Simple site transfer to a standard host
- Complex migration ($750–$1,500) — Sites with CMS, databases, APIs, or custom integrations
- Enterprise migration (custom quote) — Multi-site, complex infrastructure
Migration assistance is completely optional. You can handle migration yourself, hire another developer, or have your new agency do it. We provide clean, standard code that any competent developer can work with.
Step 4: Domain Transition
Your domain is yours (registered in your name at your registrar). When you leave:
- If we manage your DNS: We'll help you point it to your new host before your hosting expires
- If you manage your DNS: We'll give you the new DNS records to enter
- If you need to transfer your domain: We can walk you through the registrar transfer process
Step 5: Hosting Cancellation
- Monthly plans: Cancel anytime. Your site stays live through the end of your current billing period.
- Annual plans: You receive a prorated refund for unused full months remaining.
- We don't pull the plug immediately. You get a grace period to complete your transition.
Your Data
When you leave, you take everything:
- Form submissions — Exported as CSV or JSON
- Analytics data — We'll share any reports or raw data we have
- Content — All text, images, and media
- Customer data — If your site collects any user information, it's yours
We retain nothing after the transition is complete. Your data is deleted from our systems within 30 days of confirmed departure.
Why We Make Leaving Easy
Most web platforms and agencies make leaving painful on purpose. They lock your code in proprietary systems, charge exit fees, or make migration so complicated you give up and stay.
We do the opposite because:
- Confidence in our product — If you leave, it should be because your needs changed, not because we trapped you
- Reputation matters — Every client who leaves with a positive experience becomes a potential referral
- It's the right thing to do — Your business. Your website. Your choice.
Common Questions
Q: Will my site go down when I leave? A: Not if we coordinate properly. We keep your site live until your new hosting is confirmed working. There's typically zero downtime.
Q: Can I come back? A: Of course. No hard feelings, no re-enrollment fees. We'll pick up where we left off.
Q: What if I just want to pause hosting? A: We can discuss a pause if you need a break. Your site goes offline but your code stays ready for reactivation.
Q: Can my new developer contact you with questions? A: Yes. We're happy to answer technical questions from your new developer during the transition period.
